[ Editors comments: It is interesting that the top firms listed are also the ones that seem to advertise the most on the topseos site.
Also, topseos does not contact all of their members to see if they could qualify for this list.
And lastly, there is a direct link between the Media contact listed above and one of the firms that are listed in the top 30.
It would be nice if such facts did not exist and taint the credibility of this list. Yes, my company is not listed, but since we were not contacted as one of the members, I don't think they even considered us despite the fact that we have been supporting them for many years...
I recommend using www.seopros.org for help in selecting a search engine marketing company or search engine optimization firm and steer clear of ratings where there is the question of influence and bias. Disclosure: I am a member of SEOPros.org also.

Hey Chris. You have to pay to be considered for the top 30 list. You write a little essay and then give 3-5 client references and contact information for topseos.com to contact and verify your service levels and performance. It says this on the topseos.com site.
My firm was already listed in the top 30 list for several months before we brokered a tradeout of advertising on the topseos.com site in exchange for providing press release distribution services.
Believe it or not, that arrangement has nothing to do with our inclusion the top 30 list and we were not included one month recently for not providing references.
Lists always piss people off and whether one believes the firms on the list are credible or not, there is no question that the majority of them are reputable with or without a mention on the list.
This is what's fun about blogs - you get to read and respond to opinions you might not otherwise become aware of.

I respect your opinion a lot, but I still feel this top 30 list is tainted and nothing more than a marketing gimmick.
I'm not questioning the service or ability of any company on the list, only the criteria that is used to make the list. If someone (like my company) does not pay and is not considered, then should the list clearly state that?
"Here is our top 30 list of sites that paid for consideration".
And if topseos cannot publish the details of the information used to make their "choices", then how can anyone consider the true value of this list?
For this list to be credible, topseos would have to contact all companies that are listed, and perhaps others that are not and ask us all for information that they require to truly offer a list of the "top 30".
