Ok, If You Insist I'll Upgrade...!
I created this blog sometime in 2004 and just went with whatever was provided at the time. Oh, I made some changes to add AdSense and links to some of my other sites, but over the years it has not changed much except for the content.
Well, I don't know why, but for some reason my old template broke and the formatting got really messed up, but bottom links show at the top (twice!) and the page was "split" and things on the right pushed out about 50% farther than they should have.
I suspect someone wanted to see if I was paying attention and just like they condemn homes in that are run down to try and clean up a neighborhood, I think someone was trying to send me a message...?
So ok, I got it and selected this wonderful generic example of simplicity. I may change it when I have time, but for now I feel like I have rejoined the human race again with at least a presentable blog. Now if I could just do something about my main web site's PageRank Zero curse, I could relax a little.
Nielsentech.com is not the original design although some may assume that it is. The domain was registered in 1999 I think, but the original site design had to be replaced a few years back after we received reports that people were experiencing the web equivalent of the gag reflex: "Ugh! Back! Back! Back!!!". If I remember correctly is was blue on a black background with bordered tables.... think retarded 1990's armature web design, no call it web building since design was not really part of the construction...
Speaking of web design, I may learn some yet. As part of a recent SEO project for the Academy of Web Design based in San Francisco, California I bartered for a copy of their DVD video web design course that include a lot of great courses including DreamWeaver, Flash, Fireworks, design concepts, project management, SEO, some others I'm forgetting. This is not just web design but a course that covers much of what you need to learn about being a web master and can be valuable in starting your own web design business. One plus is that this is not just getting a disc and watching lessons. The instructor also is available to answer questions and help students get through the course and succeed.
I don't know too much about what training is out there, but from what I've seen this deserves consideration if you are thinking about a career in web design or just want to have better skills for your personal web site. I can't wait to get started with mine, but I STILL don't have a DVD player in my PC...! I'll post more when I start working with it.
