The Death Of SEO

I just read most of "Personalization And The Death Of SEO" here:

http://www.isedb.com/db/articles/1644/

What makes me mad is that articles like this just create FUD for users and service providers alike.

In short, while search should get better, search engine optimization or SEO will not die as long as content can be optimized so people can find it. In it's pure form, this means making sure the content matches closely what people are looking for, so that when they search for things, your site appears.

Even if Search Engines start to somehow understand what it is you are looking for without you asking them, some connection between what you want and what is on the site must take place. As long as we have search as we know it, we will have SEO as we know it. Personalization is not going to change it much, but only make the search more targeted so people have an easier time finding what they really want.

And there is a point at which it is not practical for search to be very personalized. There is just too much data to take into consideration.

Here, take a look at this GEM from 2004: http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/000089.html. It's more of the same chaff.

That was kind of the point of the article (if you'd read the whole thing that might have been clear). Personalization will not kill SEO but be ready for some big changes in the times ahead.

Or don't - it's OK. Those of us that are ready will be happy to take on your clients. ;)

I read the article and it was not clear. And many people that skim all these crap SEO articles are even less likly to get your "point". As I said, the title of the article is misleading and now you admit it's misleading yourself. I don't think the public is served by this type of writing. Most are clueless about SEO and things like this don't help.

Your smug comment and cute wink are typical of what I see in the industry and I am not impressed. Ask a stranger how your comment makes you appear and you might learn something...

Personalization will NOT kill SEO and to suggest otherwise should be left those that send email SPAM telling me they can get me top rankings. The very fact that they have to use SPAM to promote their business is a clear indication that what they do does not work or they would use it to promote their company. Raising uncertainty can be effective, but it can also bite you on your bottom.

The fact that you are "ready" and "happy to take on my clients" indicates that your business is not doing as well as it should. If I had any glimmer of hope that you could provide the kind of service and produce the kind of results that I could, I would be thrilled to refer some work to you. I'm so freaking busy I have to turn potential clients away, which is average for most professional SEOs here in the US that I know these days.
