You Can't Stop Spam!
You can't stop SPAM, it's impossible. Nothing you can do can make a difference.
Well, that is what most people think, but they are very, very wrong.
We have a long history of sending spam reports to ISPs that result in spammer's accounts being closed, because the spammer is breaking the rules of the ISP, not because we are complaining them. True, the ISP may not know about the problem if we don't let them know, but the spammers are in violation of the hosting provider's TOS or AUP, so if anyone is causing problems for the spammers, it's the ISPs that make the rules.
Only once in a while do we get a message from the ISP reporting that the spammer's account has been closed, but now there is a site that provides greater justification for reporting spam: http://www.spamscreamer.com.
I had seen this site before and thought I would see if it is still around and sure enough it is. Not only that, but now I have been listed as the top person for reporting spam (screaming) and being a thorn in spammer's sides. How cool is that?!!?
The coward that owns this site does not reveal they are, so it's clear that they have a lot to hide, unlike us.
What they fail to mention in their site is that we don't harass or act anti-social towards anyone engaged in honest business practices. We only report spammers that break the rules of the systems they use. If they spammers would just use SPAM-FRIENDLY hosting and email providers, they would never know we are around. But of course that would cost them much more money.
Summary: Reporting spam works and SpamScreamer.com is proof that it does. If more people reported spam, there would be much less spam than there is now. You can make a difference if you just report one spam a day. If a lot of people would just do that to help out, things would be much better.
If you want to report spam by hand, contact me and I can provide instructions. If you prefer a less technical and more easy way to report spam, visit www.SpamCop.net for information on their program.
