It's taking for-ever to get my site updated... maybe I'd be further along if I didn't work on this stupid Blog, but I don't spend much time on it, as you must realize...:-).

But I have update the service offerings and prices. I am now officially offering Blog optimization services. I'm not sure it's going to mean much if the blog is hosted on blogspot... mine still have no Google page rank at this point, and I'm pretty sure I submitted it....

We'll just have to see. Oh year, I just finished a new press release:

Nielsen Technical Services Introduces "General" Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

April 15, 2003 -- Nielsen Technical Services (http://www.NielsenTech.com), provider of Internet consulting services, announces the use of General Search Engine Optimization to be used with their existing scored keyword phrases in all future search engine optimization (SEO) projects at no additional cost to the client. The move was made when it was determined by the company that the general method, while initially producing lower amounts of traffic as opposed to more targeted methods, did not need on-going maintenance as the more targeted method did.

When asked about this decision, company owner Christian Nielsen said, "We are constantly looking to provide the most cost-effective solution for our clients. Many are small and medium-sized businesses that cannot afford a large up-front investment of $5,000 or $10,000, and then a monthly maintenance fee that can be hundreds and even thousands of dollars. General search engine optimisation requires an investment between $600 and $2,000, depending on the package chosen and the size of the site. After a 3-month period where the traffic initially ramps up, it remains steady for up to a couple of years, as long as the search phrases for the site do not change."

When asked to describe how this method works, Nielsen said, "Darned if I know...! No, the truth is that it's very simple. By optimizing for a broad range of scored keyword phrases, it's like being diversified in the stock market. As the competition and search engines change, the keyword rankings change, and if you are optimized across a wide range, everything averages out. Some go higher, some drop lower, but overall, the traffic stays about the same"

Founded in 1986, with headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Nielsen Technical Services has clients in Europe and South America as well as the US. One of the first companies to eschew web ranking reports as fairly meaningless, they have chosen to continue to swim upstream against mainstream SEO methodologies. The company considers visitor conversions to be the sole meaningful indicator of project success, where increased qualified traffic to the site is more of a symptom than an end in itself. So far, no client project has needed on-going maintenance, which is also a departure from the mainstream in an industry that routinely makes on-going maintenance of site ranking position a part of every proposal.

Here is a copy of our standard from letter that we send to new clients:

Our company is a little different than some you may have heard about. Our experience shows that narrow keyword targeting is less effective over time than targeting scored keyword phrases for qualified traffic. We employ a method we call "general optimization".

Our philosophy on search engine optimization is to provide the best return for the money. We do not play a rankings game. The reasons for this is it is generally very competitive and time-consuming. We build a list of keyword phrases through research and score all of the phrases. The scoring process ranks the keywords based on what people are really searching for.

The bottom line is that while you may not place overly high for specific search terms that your competitors are using, your site WILL be optimized for specific terms that will bring very targeted traffic that has a much higher interest level for exactly what you have to offer. We show you the list of scored keyword phrases so you understand what we are doing and why.

A new site can be optimized "from the ground up". You cannot beat a site that has been optimized in this way, and it should not add to the cost of the site at all.

A full site optimization for a site with up to 10 pages costs $360 (it takes about 6 hours). This includes scored keyword phrase research, editing of page titles and descriptions, create meta tags, ALT text tags, and a single meta keywords tag to be used on all pages. Any pages over 10 are $15.00 each.

We submit the main site URL to about 120 search engines and directories from a list of 240. We submit using a combination of automated and hand methods. Only the main site URL is submitted by hand, but we submit all of the site pages with a program at the rate of one page a day. All URLs are only submitted once. We do not submit to FFA sites or link farms.

This takes about 6 hours and costs $240. We also research a few targeted industry sites and submit listings to those. We provide reports from the program submission, and a spreadsheet that documents the hand submission. The hand documentation shows where you were submitted, whether the site was already listed, and confirms a submission was made. We do not use ranking or positioning reports to measure project success, but only increased levels of qualified traffic which can be verified by your web traffic reports. This is NOT the current industry standard, but we can explain why it makes more sense.

Just found an interesting article about creating your own keywords and you can read about it here: Memeword Marketing.

To that end I would like to announce my keyword for weblog optimization, or "Bloptimization". This fun work I made up stands for the process of optimization of a Blogger.com-hosted weblog. Nielsen Technical Services is the first company anywhere to offer such a service under this name.

Other keywords are "scored keyword phrases", and "general optimization".
