KwMap.com - A Keyword Map Tool and bad marketing idea...

I've had to edit this post on kwmap.com.... it turns out that despite having and interesting keyword research tool, they also have an interesting marketing method... SPAM!

I have had to go and pull or delete all my postings about this otherwise useful site and recommend that you do not link to them and do not use their top search option that is just using Overture to make a bucks for themselves... tisk-tisk... well, maybe they will figure out where they went wrong...

Google continues to exceed expectations!

Google has introduced conversion tracking as part of it AdWords system. This is way cool and even though I have not implemented it yet, I wanted to be among the first to tell you all about it.

What it means is that when a user clicks on an ad, Google tracks them with a cookie.
If they go thorough your site and "convert" or make a sale, then code from Google on the "thank you" page is used by Google to look for the cookie and if it exists, the conversion is recorded.

This is a simple, NON-EVASIVE system that should be very valuable to anyone wanting to know how effective their AdWords program is.

Further proof that GOOGLE ROCKS!!!

I am NOT an Aphid!

I just got yet ANOTHER call from Breezy Point Timeshare Condos located here in Minnesota. Even if I WANTED a timeshare I would never get one from them! What a sleezy, high pressure business!

I am on the Minnesota and Federal Do-Not-Call list, and I STILL get these calls!!!

"Oh, we aren't selling anything... we have selected you for a $100 gift certificate..."

This seems to allow them to keep calling me even though I have specificly asked NOT to be called.

50 million Americans have registered with the federal DNC list.

It might as well have been 50 million aphids...!

So now I have 3 items of my clueless list:

1) Recording companies
2) Verisign
3) Telemarketing companies

There WILL be a solution and I wish I could do more than just giving the telemarketing managers and supervisors a bad time. Suggestions? Passivity is not an option.

I have a friend over at Blog Search Engine who has a short survey about comparing Yellow Page ads to Search Ads. It really is short and if you have a minute or two maybe you could stop by before 10/22/03 and take the survey...? Thanks!

You've GOT to be kidding me...!!

I thought we had this thing settled, but is sounds like Verisign needs a good kick in the crotch to get the message...

Verisign to Resume SiteFinder

TOPIC: Verisign to Resume SiteFinder

Verisign sees no harm in SiteFinder and
plans to reimplement the program within 30 to 60
days. The company cites discussions with 35
executives as testimony to SiteFinder's benign
existence.

It's interesting to note that most ISPs that have
blocked SiteFinder are outside the U.S.

The most simple way to block the service is to change
your hosts file...
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,1274644,00.asp

or implement a DNS fix...
http://www.cipherica.com/dnsfix/

For ISPs running BIND, there is a patch...
http://www.imperialviolet.org/dnsfix.html

However, there are known issues with the patch, such
as blocking .name email...
http://www.circleid.com/article/325_0_1_0_C/

Finally, anyone interested in voicing their
disapproval of Verisign's SiteFinder, a petition has
been established...

There are drugs on the Internet!!!

I can see their effects on people, but I'm not sure if I should be taking them or not...

Until I determine the cost and long-term impact, not to mention a source, I'll just have to wonder...

A well-respect SEO person who has written quite a bit on SEO and who has at least one book just announced that the next big thing is "User-determined relevancy". Now that everyone is figuring out that link popularity is mostly a crock, we are shifting to letting user activity decide what is important.

This mis-guided revelation stems from the fact that Exactseek.com is starting to include traffic ranking numbers from Alexa.com. This earth-shattering idea is that since Alexa.com tracks user activity via it's famous (and recommended) toolbar, they can tell who's hot and how's not.

Sound's great right? But there is a problem. Just as people discovered that links had value and started a feeding frenzy, the same will be true with people surfing enmass to sites they want to give a boost too in the rankings....

Been there, done that. So what's next that we can manipulate are ruin...?

Very Sad, Very Stressed...!

Since the $21 billion acquisition of Network
Solutions, Versign has gotten a dying cash-cow. Revenue
has dropped 25 percent in the first six months of 2003.

Readaboutithere

It will be very interesting to see what the NEXT six months bring. I would guess that we will either see a company name change, or the NSI division gets sold off to ...?

On a completly different note, there is a hosting company that ran an ad in Business 2.0 offering free hosting for 3 years...! So, what the heck! I just signed up and am awaiting the approval process to go through. I will post again about my experiences. If you need to part a site somewhere and would prefer to have a full set of features (and no ads) it's worth a look. Offer expires 12/31/03.

Business talk radio, have you checked them out?

http://www.businesstalkradio.net/

The local (to us) Minnespolis affiliate station
http://www.kccoradio.com/

And this guy has a show on for two hours every week. Mostly topics related to business and computers, but can stray to other areas. Goog place to hear about new scams that are out there and get an early warning. Still has not had me on his show yet, but I'm going to keep trying. I guess he had someone one that was doing questionable site submissions and not real SEO, so he seems to be very sceptical that this stuff works...

LawMoose Community Legal Webs - Minnesota, Wisconsin, World

I just had to say a few words about what I just found out about the Law Moose web site. This site specializes in legal resources and information and they have something that I have never seen or heard of before, but is a REALLY GOOD IDEA!

They have an HTML tag called the Law Moose tag .. that is used to indicate the unique content on each page, so the spider knows what to focus on for indexing.

I'm more than glad to help them figure out what the site content is if it will help the client. Here is the link to the page that contains the information about the tag.

Welcome to SearchSight.com!

Hey, I just found this search engine. It's different, it's easy to submit to, and they put a screenshot of your site in your listing.

Premium listings are reasonably priced.

Verisign shows inteligence and backs down over SiteFinder!!!

I just read a report in Businessweek that says Versign has pulled the plug on SiteFinder, but I was amazed to see that the author was sympathetic to Verisign's position...!

He seems to think that ICANN and their gang of Net thugs (us, you and me) stole Verisign's lunch money. And what has Verisign every done for us except overcharge us and extort money for things they did not deserve...?

Let that be a lesson to any other potential Net bullies or crooks out there...!

ICANN say "You Can't!!" to Verisign!

ICANN has told Verisign to quite screwing with the Internet and stop being so arrogant and greedy. Will Verisign:

1) Get a clue?
2) Give up the ill-gotten gains?
3) Buy ICANN?
4) Take it to the point where they are finally tought a lession?

You can read about it here.
