Another (Yawn) Google Update...

I was a little upset a couple of weeks ago when I looked at my site.
No, not because it sucks, which it does, but because my Google Page Rank was
back to zero again. My site doesn't deserve a very high PageRank, but it
does deserve SOMETHING...!

I've got links if little else. There was once a time when I had THOUSANDS of
links, and they came from client sites that allowed us to put a link on all
their pages (that was for advertising, not link building, which was not a
concept at the time), many forum posts on many forum sites, and from our
submissions to search engines and directories.

Well, now we're back with a PR of 3 and about 900 back links. There should
be more, but I can't complain about having 900, since we have not done any
link building or many submissions in a number of years.

In looking at our other site and sites of our clients, I'm seeing movement
both up and down in PR. I don't see that the traffic to NielsenTech.com has
increased, so what does this tell you? Well, it confirms to me what I have
been saying for a while, and that is that high PR does not equal more
traffic. So what does THAT mean? If you don't know, then I'm not going to
tell you because you probably would not believe me...

I was invited to the Google Zeitgeist in October. I was thinking about not
going, but they only invited 400 people, so it almost seems like a "Request
to appear before the king..", and those are never a good idea to just blow
off.

Ok, back to work. I hope this "Update blog by email" works....!

Is the G-Worm Link Popularity finally turning...?

I was amused to find this post that says Google has finnaly woken from a deep slumber to realize that linking has been abused and is taking steps to fix the problem.

Man, I was feeling like the guy in the cartoon that is carrying the sign, "Repent! The end is near!". What has it been, two years, that I have spoken out that anything that can be abused will at some point be rendered ineffective, or at least less effective.

Speaking of my Favorite Search Engine, I have an invite to Zeitgeist '05...! :-) It seems they are only inviting 400 people and I am one of the chosen few. It's still a little unclear just what this means and I wonder if there's really going to be room for someone like me there.

We'll just have to wait and see I guess. It's going to be in October, which will be a nice time to see Palo Alto again. It's been about 24 years since I was last among Giant Redwood Trees and Banana Slugs. And oh, the unforgetable smell of the brussel sprount harvest when driving down highway 1 on the coast....!
