Earth Rejects Planet Status In Protest, Planets Now Down to Seven

Earth Rejects Planet Status In Protest, Planets Now Down to Seven

Experts Fear Other Planets May also Protest

August 24, 2006 - Minneapolis, Minnesota - (PRShredder.com) - In a carefully worded statement, an official spokesperson for the planet formerly known as "Earth" has publicly rejected it's legal given name and planet status, and from this date on wishes to be referred to as "Moon Buddy".

This new name will serve as both name and identification as a heavenly body. It seems that the former planet was so outraged that a member of it's planetary family would be rejected by "Specks of protoplasm that exist one day and are gone the next", that it decided to take steps to distance itself from the "human infestation" as much as possible.

When Moon Buddy was asked if it was planning any other forms of protest, it was not specific but replied, "Oh, I don't know. We may try to shake things up a bit and see who's paying attention. This issue is not over by any measure. If you insult one of us, you insult all of us."

When contacted for comment, Planet Mars appeared so angry that it was unable to speak. Venus coyly said "no comment". Jupiter seemed unfazed, amused, and would only say, "It's a knee-jerk response, they'll settle in their orbits in time. I have to admit we're all fond of Pluto and this recent news took us all by surprise. Pluto seems to holding up well so far, no talk about his leaving orbit or anything like that, so I'm sure it'll work out."

An official from NASA who declined to be named was despondent. "Christ, we're just getting started out there and what do they do? They take one of our stinking 9 planets away from us? Do you know what we will have to do after we finally visit all our planets? That's right, we'll have to have the technology to friggin go to ANOTHER solar system to explore more planets! Faster than light travel or Wormholes is what it's going to take, and who knows WHEN some egghead will figure THAT out! No one wants to visit a goddamn dwarf! What's the point???"

At press time we had not received statements or replies from the other planets we contacted.

In related news, the Organization To Save Our Planet, issued a statement that they plan on voting to disband at their annual meeting in October.

Got AT&T? - Just Say No

I canceled my AT&T long distance home service today. It was a little scary at first, but then I realized I can get another one, and now have MCI/Worldcom via a reseller. Contact me if you are interested. We have been using cheap calling cards for a while now, but it was time to replace the bloated and unfriendly ATT with someone else. I needed to send them a message. They just can't believe it when you say you want to stop your long distance service, as if you are saying "I no longer need water service, please turn off the water and stop billing me".

Yeah, we were charged for a $0.70 call that we didn't make and our bill from ATT was $12.88! You may ask "How could a single call cost that much"? It turns out that ATT stopped just charging us only when we make a call, but last May started adding a $3.95 monthly fee. For some reason (Like perhaps the fact that we have not used them for long distance in months) they didn't start charging us until now. Ok, so that's less than $5, right? Then they have a $2.99 fee that goes to Qwest (They say) to cover Qwest's cost to take the ATT bill and add it to the envelope and send it to us. Hello? $2.99 per phone bill to print and add 2 pieces of paper? Talk about your conspiracies... Let's see, then there is a "Carrier cost recovery fee" of $1.99. An "In-state connection fee" of $1.95, tax, and a "Universal Connectivity Charge" of $0.69.

If you want to know what all these fees are, you can call to find out, but each one has a different phone number!

I just called them all and I recommend that if you don't know what these charges are that you find out.

My new provider has very low rates and a monthly fee of less than 1 dollar a month.

There was one moment of humor. After I finally got them to turn off the long distance, the rep then offered me high-speed Internet DIAL-UP service at a very good rate... somehow I remained in my chair and was still civil to her...

Wikipedia Wacks Backpedaling Political Figure

Representative Gil Gutknecht (R-Minnesota) Caught Attempting To Edit Wikipedia Bio

Our country is mostly clueless on how computers and the Internet really work. Those that try to cover things up now reveal more by trying this kind of thing than if they just left it alone. I think it's pretty cool! The only thing that I worry about is that if politicians really catch on they may pass laws to protect themselves from this kind of thing...

A spokesman for Gutknecht, didn't dispute that they tried to change the entry and questioned Wikipedia's reliability. "We're concerned when anyone looks to Wikipedia for factual information," Jon Yarin said.
Yeah, we'd sure hate for them to find any, like this link found in Gutknecht's bio to a USATODAY story that backs up the information stated on Wikipedia... :-)

FW: Internet Marketing Firms Ranked - July 2006

Questions:

Should a company that is taking money for advertising/services also be the same one that "ranks" those companies? Are there companies on this list that are not paying this company? If you "unplug" your Internet Marketing Strategy, isn't it disabled or does it have battery backup? Are these rankings for July or August? And WTF is "SEM Hosting"? Is there "SEO Hosting"? (hris

Are Kanoodle And Others Violating Almondnet Patent?

Ads That Dog You Technology May Have Court Battle Brewing

Almond Net, Inc. (New York, NY) has a patent on technology that allows the company to track users and display ads on a number of sites, based on what a user was looking for initially, even if the content on later sites is not on the same topic. But there may be a problem where other companies like Kanoodle.com seem to be using the same type of technology. It is possible that other companies have licensed it from Almondnet, but that remains to be seen. Expect possible high-profile media and court battles if there is a dispute as this technology is more widely used.

Advertisers have long desired a way to "follow customers around" much as some do on used car lots, jewelry stores, and places where large appliances are sold. "Nag Ads" for running shoes can now appear on any site in the advertiser's network showing shoe ads to the visitor even if the web site itself is about pets, blenders, medical topics, music, etc. It is unclear if clicking on an ad is sufficient to stop the ads from following you or if you need to actually make a purchase to get relief.

Super saturation method for information-media

Abstract:
A super-saturation method for information-media substantially relates to a three-body cooperation to direct information to an electronic media consumer (reader, surfer, viewer, listener, etc.). Embodiments of the present invention facilitate a first media body substantially offering out of context information placement using a second cooperating media body. A facilitator body preferably guarantees that a consumer of the second media is a known consumer of the first media. Accordingly, the second media body presents an out of context information placement. For example, an exclusive members-only Internet site "AAA" is oversubscribed with potential paying advertising content at $100 CPM. This exclusive site then offers unfulfilled advertisers an option to present their advertisements to certified "AAA" viewers, albeit on a non-AAA Internet site, for $50 CPM. The facilitator locates a certified AAA viewer at an Internet site "BBB" that normally charges $30 CPM. A facilitated contract(s) between AAA, BBB, and the facilitator divides a new revenue stream of $20 CPM between them--and each of the three bodies benefit.
