Blog Network Update

If you were a regular reader and at this point I am sure you are NOT, you would know that we used to have a small network of about 70 blogs that we used with some success to promote about 1,600 parked domain names. The links from the blogs would allow the parked domains to get some traffic and in return would get some clicks and earn enough to at least pay for the annual renewal fee for most of the domains. Then Blogger that was hosting most of the blogs decided to change their system and I was suddenly faced with not being able to update my blog network. That happened in April of 2010 and with all that is going on including buying a new home and moving (please don't ask - I don't want to re-live that for a long time) getting the blogs converted/replaced was not a high priority. They actually did pretty good for a long time, but traffic finally started to drop, so it was time to roll up the sleeves and get to work.

Part of this process was to look at different blog platforms and try to find something almost as good as WordPress and at least as good as Blogger. The main feature I needed was post via email.

I am happy to report that progress is being made and I have about 7 blogs up and running and they are starting to get traffic and pass some of that nice-nice along to my parked domains again. Oh, my domains are parked with a provider that doesn't mind non-fraud traffic from search engines that originates from getting links.

Along with settling on b2Evolution as my final choice for blog software I do have some others in the network. One may get replaced with b2e, but there are some nice options out there. And I didn't really even try all that many once I found what b2e could do. I did have to pay someone to make the post via email correctly, but once that was done I had what I wanted and I feel it's better than Blogger in many ways - most importantly I have complete control now and in the future over my blog and it's hosting.

I got a GE digital camera this Summer and one of the nice things about that is that I have been geting some great photos to great custom blog headers. Even if you have the same basic template and 5,000 other blogs, adding your own photos can really make them look good. Do that and play with the CSS a little to change colors and you have a good custom look.

Sedo doesn't want its customers to know they own a portfolio of domains that they are actively selling (in competition with their customers domains) so they hide behind "Dom Collect". But they are the same company!
